St Bernard Safe Walking

Product Information

St Bernard is a GPS based Emergency Location Service designed around the needs of social care.

It enables someone who has encountered a problem when they are out and about to be located. They might have wandered out of a familiar area and become lost or confused and unaware of their situation. In many cases fear of this happening can stop people going out by themselves either because they themselves are afraid, or because their carers and family are concerned for their safety.

Being able to provide a safety net in the form of emergency location can reassure both the service user and their carers. It can allow people to continue being active and independent and helps reduce the costs of providing continuous support.

The St Bernard Location Service provides a selection of different alerts and alarms which can be combined into a risk management profile for an individual. This profile takes into account the capabilities of the service user and the support structure so that the appropriate response to an alert can be made.

Types of Alerts

  • Alerts can be interactive (user or carer operation) or
  • non-interactive (automatic monitoring).

    Interactive

  • Pressing the panic button on the device
  • Remotely triggering a panic alert by a registered carer
  • Requesting a position from the web site

    Non-interactive

  • Entering or leaving safe or risky areas (Geofences)
  • Low battery
  • Loss of contact with the device
  • Moving over a certain speed, getting on a bus for example.

The response to an alert depends very much on the device user and their circumstances. If appropriate the responder can call the location device and talk to the user. The device can be set to answer the call automatically. In some cases it is possible to make a silent call when the phone does not ring and the caller can listen to any conversation without being heard themselves.

When it comes to finding a user who has got lost, someone with access to the web site can guide searchers using the map and aerial photograph displays. Alternatively if a searcher has an Internet enabled mobile phone they can view the map and location directly.

Simple integration with telecare and warden call systems.
The LocaLink remote trigger works with most telecare, warden and nurse call systems so that alerts can be handled in the same way as other devices such as pendant alarms or telecare sensors.
