Chubb, striving to provide the most robust 24/7 falls packages in the market
Published 16th November 2009
Falls are the most common cause of injury in older people and a major reason for hospital attendance.
The Department of Health identified this in The National Service Framework for Older People 2001 whose main aim was “To reduce the number of falls which result in serious injury and ensure effective treatment and rehabilitation for those who have fallen.”
The Royal College of Physicans 2006 identified that:-
- 28-33% of the population over 65 and 32-42% of the population over 75 will fall each year
- 5% of falls result in a hip fracture which costs the NHS individually £20,000 to treat
- 40% of all care home admissions have falls as a contributing factor
- Of those people who sustain a fracture as a results of a fall 12% die within 30 days
- Falls account for 71% of all fatal accidents in the over 65 age group annually
- Hip fractures cost the NHS £2 billion per year to treat
Due to the above, Chubb have prioritised the development of what they consider to be the most robust 24/7 falls detection package in the market. The launch of the new wrist worn Fall Detector at the TSA conference completes this offering for 2009.
Chubb Fall Detector (wrist worn)
This revolutionary Chubb Fall Detector is the first automatic fall sensor watch style.
The Fall Detector has been specially developed to be worn on the wrist permanently with maximum comfort for the user in their everyday life. The unique technology uses algorithms and an accelerometer to determine real falls. When a fall alarm is raised, the technology will vibrate immediately, during this period if the user does not want to send out the signal of the alarm, they just have to move their arm which will cancel the alarm. If this is not done then a call will be sent through the IntelliLink carephone or to the Carer Alert so the appropriate response can be sent.
Bed Occupancy Sensor with Light
The Bed Occupancy Sensor with light, will detect when a user has left the bed and not returned within a preset time (4 alarm types can be set). It can also be configured to alert carers or the control centre, if the person has not got into or out of bed by a certain time. When leaving the bed during the night, lights can be switched on, lighting their way and reducing the risk of a fall. A timer can also be set to ensure the sensor will work only during night time hours. The user can switch the light on or off from within the bed with a remote switch, further reducing the risk of falling out of bed. Sensitivity can also be set with this monitor and the appropriate under the mattress or under the sheet pad can be used.
Chubb Care Sensor
The Chubb Care Sensor provides a unique non intrusive, non bodily worn solution to personal security for older, vulnerable and disabled people. The Care Sensor is a bed occupancy detector which can send an alarm when the person leaves the bed, or leaves the bed and does not return within a specific time. The sensor is based on vision technology which can see and interpret situations. The greatest advantage with this technology is that the sensor, to a high extent, can be adjusted to suit individual needs. The Care Sensor offers a longer product lifetime than comparable products and has no need for hygienically
maintenance due to the fact that the sensor does not demand physical contact.
