Chubb and North Tyneside Offer Unique Video Proposition
Published 19th January 2012
North Tyneside Council required a solution which would assist in the care for six clients coming out of Institutionalised care into an assisted living setting comprising six individual flats.
The cost of care for these clients was estimated at £300,000 per annum. Not only was this cost deemed excessive and beyond this year’s budget but questions were being asked about whether emulating the level of care afforded to these clients in an institution, was really appropriate to their needs. After all, the clients were being moved to the new accommodation in order that they should try and maximize their potential to live independently.
After discussion with the Council, Chubb submitted a proposal to reduce the level of physical care required without compromising the safety of or service to the clients utilising technol-ogy in the form of audio and video connections from each flat to the North Tyneside Telecare monitoring centre. The North Tyneside telecare monitoring centre is situated within 100 yards of the clients’ residence, in order that a physical response could be deployed almost immediately if deemed necessary.
It is envisaged that up to half the current cost of care could be saved without deterioration in the quality of that care. Indeed, clients could benefit from becoming increasingly self sufficient and independent as they become less reliant on carers doing things for them that they may well have a latent capability to do for themselves.
Chubb are continually striving to develop technical solutions that cater for the disparity or conflict between the increasing cost of and the delivery of quality care in the community.
Andrew Inggall, Regional Sales Manager, Chubb Community Care says:
“The advent of improving Broadband infrastructure in the UK and the reducing cost of bespoke video solutions will result in many more authorities adopting the concept of video connections through to vulnerable clients in order that they have visibility of the client and their surroundings to enable them to make a more informed judgement about the need for any intervention. Often the client just needs a little instruction and a lot of reassurance. The system can often give them that without the need for a visit. This technology will soon be a pre-requisite for remote care in the community and bring telecare into a new era”
