BT 21CN Telephone Network Upgrade Update

Published 21st February 2008

Chubb Community Care have been working closely with the Telecare Services Association (TSA) and BT, and at a recent meeting with the Supply Sector, BT announced that its roll out strategy for 21CN was under review, it stressed that the end date of the project, nor its overall objectives have changed. Simply the approach to migration will differ, the http://www.SwitchedOnuk.org website which provided users with an expectation of dates has been suspended because the timetable will change.

At this time it is not known when the new data will be published, BT have stated that the roll out programme will now be prioritised by Communications Provider, of which BT Retail is one of many. This replaces an exchange by exchange, geographical approach which the market has been working towards unit now.

The TSA has recently released this statement ‘This is confusing & unwelcome news, but news which TSA believes it should share. The best advice to members is to press ahead with – even accelerate their 21CN planning, as migration may come sooner than originally anticipated to a particular area.’

As a result of this, it is Chubb Community Care’s recommendation that you should urgently complete the review of equipment at risk in your service user’s homes, to mitigate the potential losses in service should the change take place earlier than anticipated.
