BS8521 Common Protocol

Published 02nd October 2009

During 2009, Chubb has been working hard to enhance our products, systems and procedures in order to improve the services delivered to our clients. Our ultimate goal is to exceed the expectations of the Community Care market place and champion the use of technology to empower the individual & enable independent living for longer.

At Chubb Community Care and indeed throughout the whole of the UTC group, we are committed to working within our code of ethics. Amongst other things, the code ensures that we operate with integrity and embrace our customers as partners. It also extends to our products which are all fully tested & ready to migrate to the BT 21 Century Network & are EN300-220 compliant with a class one receiver.

We recognise and endorse that there is a choice of suppliers and technology in today’s market which is why we ensure that our products communicate effectively with all modern telecare call handling software systems making them as interoperable as possible with other manufacturers equipment.

We are delighted that the new common protocol has now been ratified by BSI. As defined by the Telecare Services Association (TSA), BS8521 offers for the first time the promise of improved interoperability of remote controllers supplied by different manufacturers, better identification and localisation of alarms and events and a solution which is resilient in the telecommunications network environment post 2010.

Chubb Community Care was a founder member of the common protocol BS8521 which was created by all manufacturers & the TSA working together to give the telecare market a single robust platform.

From November 2009, the BS8521 protocol will be introduced across the Chubb Community Care portfolio. It is important to note however that Chubb technology was never reliant on the introduction of the common protocol and it will continue to communicate 100% effectively with all modern telecare call handling software without changes or updates of any kind, giving you the customer the ultimate in choice.
