Wolverhampton Supporting Carers in A Caring Role
The Telecare Service in Wolverhampton is offered to adults with a cognitive impairment, regardless of the cause, or if the person has difficulty in summoning assistance in a crisis situation, this is following an assessment of need.
The objectives of the service are to
- Enable people to remain living in their own homes for longer.
- Facilitate timely discharge from hospital.
- Reduce risk in accordance with identified needs.
- Support carers in the caring role.
A large proportion of referrals for the service have requested support for carers in the form of the Chubb Carer Alert.
Mrs Kaur cares for her husband who has memory difficulties. Mrs Kaur noticed that her husband started to leave the taps on and she was concerned about his safety and didn’t like to leave him at home on his own.
Following a visit from Wolverhampton’s City Council Telecare Service, Mrs Kaur was informed that they could offer her support and peace of mind. This equipment could alert Mrs Kaur whilst she was at home of a potential risk situation. Following an assessment a Chubb flood detector and door exit monitor were installed linked to the ‘Carer Alert’.
Since the equipment has been installed it has made a huge impact on Mrs Kaur’s life;
“It provides me with reassurance that I will be alerted should the need occur.?
We would like to thanks Mrs Kaur for her contribution to this case study
