Linx Homes based in Lincolnshire opened a brand-new Extra Care housing scheme at Elizabeth Court, Louth. The scheme offers an alternative to residential care for in excess of 40 tenants, providing both housing-related support and personal care via a partnership of Lincolnshire Social Services and the Lindum Care organisation. The building incorporates leading edge communications technology installed by Initial Attendo, providing the residents, staff and visitors with emergency call facilities, telecare functionality and video door entry systems.

Barbara Fowler, Elderly Services Manager, said “We have chosen Chubb Community Care’s ComEx PBX-based communication system, which allows our residents to make free phone calls to each other within the building, and reduced cost calls to their family and friends away from the site. The system is easy to use and still provides all the facilities of a traditional warden call system?.

The high specification scheme provides a wide range of facilities for the residents to enhance their quality of life, including lounges, laundry, restaurant, hairdressing salon, treatment room, guest suite, assisted bathing and Internet facilities. In addition, the communication system incorporates Chubb’s IntelliLink dispersed alarm unit within each dwelling and the communal areas, allowing residents to summon emergency assistance 24 hours a day using their Verso portable radio trigger. Barbara explained

“The flats are telecare-ready, allowing our more vulnerable residents to be provided with tailored packages designed as part of a sustainable care model to minimise the risks from falls, hypothermia and dementia?.

Security is enhanced with the implementation of a digital video door entry system, which covers the main entrance doors and gates around the site. Visitors use the call panel to contact the person they wish to visit. Their call activates a CCTV camera, which transmits a picture to the monitor in the flat. The tenant can then speak to the visitor and see them before choosing whether or not to let them in. Key-fob tokens also allow residents keyless access to the building.

Barbara concluded “Linx Homes is delighted to have worked in partnership with Chubb to deliver an advanced solution to the residents of Elizabeth Court, whatever their changing needs may be?.
