Chestercare Identicom Lone Worker

In July 2005 ChesterCare started piloting the Chubb Identicom Lone Worker System. This system was given to Scheme Managers for sheltered property as they visit tenants everyday.

One of these tenants is Mr Anderson, Mr Anderson is a gentleman but occasionally gets agitated due to medical problems. On a particular occasion, ChesterCare received an intercom call from Mr Anderson, he was upset and the Scheme Manager decided to go to visit him.

They logged on to a job on the Identicom Badge recording who they were, where they were and how long they expected to be at the property.

On arrival, Mr Anderson started shouting and getting very upset. The Scheme Manager went to the kitchen to make tea but he followed them in closing the door behind him. The Scheme Manager felt very threatened as he was still shouting so they pressed the alert button on Identicom badge. They felt the Badge vibrate but Mr Anderson was not aware of anything. The Scheme Manager felt reassured to know that our conversation was being recorded and that ChesterCare was aware that the Scheme Manager needed assistance.

The Scheme Manager managed to coax Mr Anderson into the lounge with a cup of tea. As they sat down the Scheme Managers mobile phone began ringing, it was ChesterCare asking them if they were alright. The Scheme Manager said they were fine but explained the situation. They also knew that if they wanted assistance they could have given one of the code names ChesterCare use. By now, Mr Anderson was ready to be left. The Scheme Manager rang Mr Anderson’s daughter while they were with him and she promised to visit him later on that evening. On leaving, The Scheme Manager rang ChesterCare to update them.

At the office, the manager asked the Scheme Manager to record the visit. They were both able to listen to the minute recording of the visit recorded via the alert button – this helped to explain what had happened for those who weren’t present.

Fortunately this time the incident was logged with no further action. However, if assistance has been required, the Scheme Manager could have relied on the ChesterCare Lone Worker system to act.
