Carer Alert Helping Families in Gateshead
Mr and Mrs Jones* live with their 13 year old son called James* who has severe autism and physical disabilities including an internally rotating hip.
James is prone to getting up and wandering during the night, this can happen from 4 to 14 times every night, and due to his hip condition James cannot go
down steps unattended. Mr and Mrs Jones are worried that James may fall down the stairs if he attempts this during the night.” Due to this, Mr and Mrs Jones are constantly awake listening for James to get up and the sleep patterns are also disturbed for their two younger children.
Working with Gateshead Community Based Services, they have come up with a solution which enables peace of mind and a better quality of life for the whole family. The Chubb Carer Alert was put into the home which alerts Mr and Mrs Jones when James is out of bed so they can take James to the toilet or put him back into bed.
Mr Jones said :-
“ Using this system has enabled my wife and I to get some sleep without worrying about James wandering. It alerts us when James is out of his room and allows us to see to James needs straight away.
This has improved not only James way of life but our own health and we would not be without the Carer Alert”
